Cross County Community Schools
Stromsburg, Nebraska
The Cross County Community School District was formed in 2002 by combining the former Stromsburg Public Schools and Benedict Public Schools. In 2006 BVH was commissioned to design a new school to be located between Stromsburg and Benedict. Starting the 2008/09 school year, all Cross County students – pre-kindergarten through 12th grade – are now housed under one roof.
The 450-student, $13.5 million school contains 112,500 SF of classrooms, 2 gymnasiums, commons, kitchen, auditorium, administrative space, as well as football field, softball field and track. Functionally, the building is divided into 4 space ‘zones’: The elementary zone, middle school zone, high school zone, and a zone for shared spaces such as computer labs, media center, family consumer services, vocational education and art. 3 individual front entrances help to further separate the younger students from the middle and high school students.
