Gibbon Public Schools
Gibbon, Nebraska
A need to modernize outdated classrooms and the desire to provide a more central location for its students were the driving factors behind Gibbon Public Schools decision to commission Bahr Vermeer Haecker Architects to design a new K-12 school.
As part of a multi-phased discovery process, BVH conducted extensive facility condition audits of existing buildings and then developed multiple renovation and addition schemes to address the program deficiencies. Alternatives to renovate the existing middle and elementary schools while providing new complementary facilities were ultimately ruled out due to inefficiencies in cost and educational delivery systems.
A new K-12 school was the overwhelming favorite. The site location is convenient for many students to walk to school. The facility will be built on property already owned by the district, allowing for the greatest number of students to be centrally located in all grades K-12. The new multi-grade building is designed to accommodate up to 500 students
