Fremont Power Plant Apartments
Fremont, NE
BVH designed conversion of a 75,000 sf power plant into upscale and affordable housing. The building, vacant since the 1980’s, houses 41 modern loft-style apartments while maintaining the turn-of-the century design details that enhance the ambiance of the structure. Original architectural details were retained and restored. An existing 25-ton hoist, used to move equipment in the original l power plant, remains as a fixture in the new lobby space.
Office and administrative spaces for the power plant were converted to a commons area for the building, retaining the original Art Deco style of the space. The original turbine room has been preserved and is now used for tenant parking. Much of the steel structure that once supported boilers has been left in place and can be seen from with-in.
