Bell Tower at St Columbkille

Bell Tower at St Columbkille

Omaha, NE

Originally proposed during the master plan provided to the church in 1979, the bell tower is a new symbol into the landscape at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. The tower marks the edge of an entry plaza, and is oriented towards a prominent corner of a suburban metropolitan community. Upon the request of the congregation, the bronze bell from the original 19th century church was reused. This first piece would be featured as a link to the past, while providing direction for the future. A tower was proposed to house the bell, a visual focal point that would compliment the existing building and give presence to the entire site. The bell was designed to be suspended between four monumental piers, signifying arrival to a special place. These brick structures function as the grounding element for the tower, and provide a link to the existing building. BVH has provided design services for all phases of St. Columbkille's building program for nearly 28 years.
