Lutheran Church of the Master
Omaha, NE
The West Omaha congregation of Lutheran Church of the Master created a second campus to accommodate their expansive growth by purchasing a 26-acre site further west, in the city’s high residential growth area. BVH master planned the new campus to accommodate present and future needs for a 1,000 seat sanctuary with a separate devotional chapel, a Family Life Center, a complete Christian education center, administrative offices, and support spaces such as a large kitchen and an open gathering space. A bell tower strengthens the church’s presence on the suburban hill from all directions.
The first of three phases (a 27,000 SF Family Life and Educational Center) was designed to flow into future phases, yet stand on its own as a single building on top of the hill in the middle of the site. The site master plan includes attention to native landscaping and developing a prayer walk. The elements tie together in an effort to make the transition from the real world to the sacred more pleasant, meaningful, and impressionable. The site layout also offers possibilities for future additions or buildings to accommodate more education space or other unknown needs of the future ranging from day care to long-term care to a special school or seminary. There is space for a soccer field and softball diamond.
