St Andrew's United Methodist
Omaha, NE
The continued growth of this 12-year old suburban Church congregation necessitated a major expansion that includes a new sanctuary, fellowship and educational facilities.
The St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church congregation desired a design that would serve as an identity in the community. The new 17,000 SF facility features a narthex and a sanctuary to seat 1,000 worshipers. There are also classrooms and a music room on the lower level.
In the narthex and worship space, the layering of ‘ancient’ materials of stone and masonry combine with modern ‘future’ materials of steel and formed glass.
A design goal for the new building was to create a counterpoint to the bustling congested commercial area surrounding it. The completed facility successfully establishes the Church building as a ‘place apart’ and serves as a beacon to the community – inviting visitors to experience this welcoming enclave sitting peacefully within the commercial environment around it.
