The expansion of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of West Des Moines, Iowa, consisted of a new worship space and additions to of the elementary school and offices. BVH also designed the renovation of the 24,000 SF facility that was built in 1994 as a temporary worship space and later converted to the Parish Hall. Completed in 2000, Phase II continues the same materials and character of the existing structure, modeled after the architecture of the original basilica church in Assisi, Italy. The new 14,000 SF worship center accommodates 1,000 worshipers and includes spaces for chapels and support spaces. The Education Center expansion provides a total of 16 classrooms to accommodate preschool, kindergarten, and grades one through six. New spaces were built for expanded Parish offices and school administrative needs. In 2004 BVH completed work on Phase III design for new classrooms for grades six through eight, a cafeteria, gymnasium, and a large media center.
