Originally built in 1937 in the Art Modern style as the Ontario-Cucamonga Fruit Exchange, the conversion of the existing structure, located at 217 “A” Street, to a museum is the Chaffey Communities Cultural Center project commissioned to Bahr Vermeer Haecker Architects. The conversion provides exhibit spaces, a research library, staff offices, and a gift shop while preserving the buildings historic design. The exterior of the building has been restored to its historic appearance including the restoration of the landscaping to incorporate plants and trees commonly used during the era of original construction. Details, such as original style windows and exterior wall color/finish, re-establishes the historical appearance while incorporating safety and security features in a style compatible with the historic period.
