Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center

The Mari Sandoz Heritage Society and Chadron State College have renovated and rehabilitated the former library on the Chadron State College campus for use as the Mari Sandoz High Plains Heritage Center. Design and construction of the Center will occur in two phases. Phase One, just completed, included complete exterior renovation of the historic library and rehabilitation of interior into the High Plains Heritage Center which contains an interpretive exhibit area, meeting rooms, an archival repository for the Sandoz Society, and the CSC Herbarium. An atrium link addition to the existing facility was also constructed to allow for meeting areas, support areas and to act as a future link to the Phase II construction. The Phase II addition will include a new conference center, meeting facilities, and expanded archival storage.
Bahr Vermeer & Haecker Architects, Ltd., services included program and restoration/rehabilitation plans for the Mari Sandoz Center. Full design services included the interior rehabilitation and exterior renovation of the existing building and design of the atrium link and new conference center which are compatible and respective of the historic library and historic adjoining campus facilities.
