Preservation
Preservation is the best example of sustainable design. And BVH has taken leading roles in recognizing the need for and benefits of historic preservation and heritage conservation since 1968.
We have always understood that when new use of an old building is approached with imagination, it can have a variety of unexpected benefits. BVH is pleased to have served a large number of adaptive reuse and historic preservation projects.
Teamed with passionate and interested people who work with private funds and official cooperation, buildings have been restored to their former glory; trees have been planted in downtown communities; and fine details in cast iron, terra cotta and stone have been reintroduced to a new generation.
All such acts contribute to civic pride. There is a direct relationship between cultural life and economic growth. Awareness, interest, vision and initiative will result in further improvements.
To preserve buildings that have historical interest or a desirable character is not to yield to nostalgia, but to recognize cultural, sociological and economic advantages. It means we have not forgotten what a building was, and not yet seen what it can be. The renovation of the still worthy buildings is a joyous tribute to both.
